Sound was central to shaping Huitzilin’s cultural identity and emotional tone. To ground the film in a distinctly Mexican soundscape, I travelled to Mexico with sound designer Sofia Luna to collect location ambience and environmental recordings that could not be authentically reproduced in Switzerland. Foley was later recorded in Switzerland under controlled conditions to capture the film’s specific actions and textures.

We also re-recorded the dialogue remotely, prioritizing emotionally nuanced performances and greater depth in the characters’ voices. For the score, I collaborated with two Mexican composers to develop a musical language that supported the film’s themes without overwhelming its quieter moments.

During the final mixing session at HSLU, I composed and integrated additional music for the closing sequence, working closely with sound mentor Marc Fragstein. The finished soundtrack brings together Mexican location recordings, Foley, dialogue, original music, and sound design to create a world that feels culturally grounded and emotionally cohesive.
